"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after
orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by
- James 1:27
As a faith community, we take seriously God’s instruction to love and care for the needs of children. We believe that every chance to serve a child is a tremendous opportunity to reflect the heart of God. Through our ministry, Forever Family, First Baptist Simpsonville and Upstate Church come alongside the growing number of adoptive and fostering parents to provide support, encouragement, and additional resources to truly live out the call of being Jesus to children in need.
Statistics reveal an ever-present distress in the Upstate, South Carolina, and around the world. Whether that be a child coming from a hard place in need of
shelter through foster care or a newly born baby adopted into a forever family, the need is great. Currently, there are 4,619 children in the South Carolina Foster Care system, however, approximately 1,858 of those children are in the Upstate. At First Baptist Simpsonville/Upstate Church we believe our involvement and support in the adoption and foster care system gives us the opportunity to
connect people with Jesus by loving children, birth families, social workers, judges, and anyone else involved as Christ. As followers of Christ, Jesus calls us to provide for orphans and widows in their distress (James 1:27). We have a specific mandate to do good, seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and plead the widow’s cause (Isaiah 1:17).
Why Adoption and Foster Care Matter
Take ActionFind out how you can support adoptive and foster families, from volunteering to donating. There are a number of ways individuals and groups can take action. Read below to explore several on-ramps to supporting our local social system and foster care families.
Parents Night Out
Several times a year the Forever Family team provides a fun-filled night for foster and adoptive parents to go out and enjoy a date while we watch the children.
Whether an exciting night at Pump-It Up or enjoying a movie at the church, our desire is to give mom and dad a break in order for them to invest into their marriage while we watch the kids! We always need volunteers to help have fun with the children.
The Giving Wall
Each year we have a few specific Sundays where we challenge all campuses to provide a variety of gift cards to foster and adoptive families. Whether a first-time placement is in need of a gift card for clothing, meals, and necessities OR even a little treat for a birthday or anniversary, the Giving Wall provides a practical way to give that goes a long way.
Connect Group PartnershipConnect groups from all campuses have a great opportunity of blessing our current foster and adoptive families through partnering with Forever Family. Through this partnership Connect Groups and individuals are able to provide meals, donate miscellaneous gift cards for clothes and school supplies, and of course, pray for each family member.
